What Stackhold actually does

Know exactly when you can afford the next one.

Whether it's your first home, your second rental, or your tenth — Stackhold plugs in your real numbers and answers the question honestly. No jargon, no guesswork, and no spreadsheet maintenance.

Built for first-home buyers, mum-and-dad investors, and serious portfolio builders across New Zealand, Australia and the US.

Your first 5 minutes

What actually happens after you sign up.

The fastest way in is to tell Stackhold Assistant your situation in plain language — or paste a block from your sheet — and let it build your first draft of the model. No long wizard, no credit check. Prefer forms? The same app lets you add everything by hand. Either way, within a few minutes you can ask the one question you came for.

  1. 1 Minute 1

Open Stackhold Assistant and say what you're working with — or paste a sheet.

Describe your situation in plain language: what you own, what you earn, and what you want to do next. Stackhold Assistant (in the Cockpit) turns that into real rows in the app. Already track everything in Excel or Google Sheets? Copy the block and paste it into the chat — tab- or comma-separated is fine, and a large paste in one go beats retyping every field by hand.

Full Assistant chat (type or paste) is a Premium feature. On Free, add the same details manually in a few simple screens — no credit check, same engine underneath.

  2. 2 Minutes 2–3

See what it captured, then confirm.

Whether you spoke in sentences or pasted from a sheet, you get a clear preview of what will change in your plan before it writes. Approve, tweak, and the full model recalculates — DTI, LVR, cashflow, and deposit-readiness — all at once.

Nothing is written without your OK — the Assistant proposes; you sign off.

  3. 3 Minute 5

Ask the question you actually care about.

Try 'When can I afford to buy?' or 'Is a second rental realistic if rates spike?' The live model answers in real numbers for your market — first home, next purchase, or the shape of a growing portfolio, depending on what you set up in step 1.

Core lending + cashflow (and manual entry) work on Free. The Assistant, 10-year view, and Stackhold Strategy are on Premium — that's where the "plain English → full plan" path shines.

AI that doesn't just answer — it updates your plan.

Most tools give you a chat window. Stackhold's AI writes directly into your portfolio, income, and cashflow — so your plan moves as fast as your thinking.

I'm thinking of adding a $720k new-build in Hamilton, 6.2% IO for 5 years. Does it fit?

Yes — it fits. It lifts DTI to 6.3× (under 7× cap), portfolio LVR stays at 62%, and the new-build DTI exemption gives you headroom. Here's what I'll change:

  • + Add property: Hamilton new-build · $720,000 · IO 5y
  • ↻ Recalculate: DTI 5.8× → 6.3×, LVR 59% → 62%
  • ! Flag: $58k short on deposit — sell unit B or defer 8 months

Product workflow preview — structured actions are always shown for approval before anything changes.

Structured actions, not just chat

The AI speaks a structured action protocol that adds, updates or removes portfolio items, incomes, expenses, tasks and checklists. Every action is previewable — you approve before anything changes.

Portfolio-aware by default

Your full context — properties, base equity, income, lending rules, selling strategy, tenant and task data — is available to the AI. It doesn't ask you to re-explain yourself.

Guardrails, not guesses

The AI enforces your deposit, LVR, DTI and stress-test rules. If a suggestion breaches a limit, it flags it loud — with an alternative.

DTI. LVR. Cashflow. Stress tests.

Live metrics tuned to your country. Gross/net yield, portfolio LVR, debt-to-income, stress-tested serviceability and exact borrowing capacity — all from the numbers you enter, all updated instantly.

Honest answers

The questions everyone asks us.

If you're still on the fence, this is where most people find the answer that tips them over. If yours isn't here, email us — a real person replies.

I've never invested before — will this be too advanced for me?

No. Start with one property (even one you don't own yet) and the app tells you, in plain English, whether the numbers stack up. On Premium, you can also describe the same thing to Stackhold Assistant or paste a small table from a sheet, and it maps into the app for you after you confirm. Every term like "LVR" or "DTI" has a one-line definition on hover. If you can use a mortgage calculator, you can use Stackhold.

I'm just saving for a first home — is this actually useful for me?

Yes. Model the home you want to buy, add your real income and expenses, and Stackhold tells you the month you can realistically settle — not a generic rule-of-thumb. You'll see exactly how much more deposit you need, what stress-tested repayments look like at 8.5%, and which LVR band you're heading into. It's the opposite of a bank pre-approval that expires in 60 days.

We own one rental and are nervous about buying a second. Can this help?

That's one of the most common reasons people sign up. Stackhold plugs in both properties, your personal income, and the loan on the next one — then runs a stress-test so you see what happens if rates rise to 8.5% or rent drops for three months. You get a clear answer to "is this safe?" before you make an offer, not after.

Do I need to enter everything perfectly to get useful answers?

No. Start with rough numbers — a price estimate, a rent estimate, your salary. The engine uses sensible defaults for things like rates, insurance and maintenance, and you can refine them later. Every screen tells you what's a sensible default and what to tighten up next.

Is my data safe? Does it go anywhere?

Your data lives in your private cloud account, encrypted in transit and at rest. We never sell it, we never share it with banks, and you can delete everything in Settings. If you stay signed out, nothing leaves your device.

How is this different from a mortgage calculator or a spreadsheet?

A calculator answers one question in isolation. A spreadsheet answers ten questions, but every change breaks three others. Stackhold is one live model — change a rent, add an expense, sell a property, and every downstream number (DTI, LVR, cashflow, next-buy date) updates at the same time. You can't get that from a single-page tool.

Do I need to be in New Zealand, Australia or the US?

Those are the three markets where the lending rules, terminology (bright-line, 1031 exchange, negative gearing) and defaults are baked in natively. If you invest somewhere else — the UK, Canada, Ireland, Singapore — the engine still works; you just edit the defaults for your market. Nothing is hard-coded to one country.

What happens after the first five minutes?

Add more properties, tenants, tasks, documents, and personal expenses as and when you have them. Stackhold is designed to grow with you — most users build their portfolio inside the app over weeks, not in one sitting. Everything you add makes the forecasts sharper.

5 minutes. One honest answer.

Find out when you can actually afford the next one.

Add one property (or the home you want to buy), a few numbers about your income, and Stackhold tells you — in a real date, in your own currency — when the next move is realistic.
